I bought a CF to SD adapter on Trademe a week or so ago. Had the idea that it would be useful as I have an 8GB micro SD card and as the microSD to SD adapter is just a bunch of wires it would work in the CF adapter, which it does.

It also fits into and works properly in my camera (a Sony a350). However, it does not work in my iPod. I have a CF to whatever the fuck iPods have adapter in my 5th generation iPod, and I was using a 16GB CF card in it, which worked reasonably well.

If you use the CF to SD adapter in it and try to get iTunes to restore the iPod, it saves its stuff to it, the iPod shows a loading screen, then goes right back to the screen saying you need to restore your iPod.

The CF/SD card thing works fine afterwards, have not tested the iPod as I don’t particularly care if it works or not. My phone is a better audio player and my computer is better again.

It would be interesting to get a CF to IDE adapter and see what I can find out about the hardware, but I don’t have one. Also saw a CF to SATA adapter on Trademe, but the person selling it wouldn’t accept credit card, bank transfers seem like too much effort, and I am a lazy bastard. Anyway, the SATA adapter might obscure the information I want to see in much the same way as the CF to SD adapter obscures the information (probably jack shit, have never seen any way to get detailed information about SD cards like that) about the SD card.

Am wiping the 16GB CF card, it will be far more useful in my camera. I might also be willing to part with the shell of my former iPod if someone has a better use for it than me. Just don’t expect to get the old hard drive it had before I added the CF to iPod adapter, it rests in pieces, some in my desk, some in my box of shiny things, some on a wooden box on my windowsill.

By the way, did you know that iPod hard drives are very similar to the hard drives found in Toshiba Libretto laptops?

Mint

I was just cooking with some mint (frozen, bought a few months ago), and I was thinking that I ought to buy myself some mint plants so that I have a fresh supply.

I like it as an ingredient, I have one delicious meatball curry recipe that uses it, and I was just trying a mixture of garlic, mint water and yoghurt in place of water for cooking rice. It smells good so hopefully it will taste good.

When I was still living in Lower Hutt with my parents there was a patch of mint growing in the back yard in a rather poorly maintained  area of garden, there was some other plant that also grew there with mint like leaves, something vaguely related I think, but I never tried eating it, could have been poisonous.

Anyway, the place where the mint grew was level with the lawn and there was no barrier between it and the lawn, so my Dad regularly mowed over it, resulting in a vastly reduced supply. Sometimes resulting in meatball curry without mint, the recipe book suggests coriander as an alternative but I do not think it works as well, parsley works very well as a substitute, weirdly enough.

Back to the rice cooked with mint, garlic and yoghurt, I will be having it with a lamb stew made from onions, tomato, tumeric, chilli, cubeb pepper, a ground up dried lime (loomi) and baharat.

You can get the dried limes at Moshims in Newtown, if you happen to live in Wellington. You can also get the ingredients to make baharat there.

First (Visible) Post

So, I thought I would set this up and start posting on it, I have no idea what I will end up posting about, I guess I will find out later.

Doesn’t really matter anyway, anyone reading will notice a twitter feed on the side that may or may not be working, it was not when I last looked at it, I have no idea why, if it stays not working maybe I will go to the effort of debugging it.

All requests to this site are logged and your user agent is captured for later parsing, maybe I will make something to show cool pie charts of the number of cool people using something that is not Internet Explorer compared to the number of fools using Internet Explorer, if I get the motivation.

Am thinking I will cook something with chicken, bacon and possibly pasta for dinner tonight, after feeding and watering my parents cat.

Oh, and when I get a decent gallery thing on here, I will be posting photos of things too, whatever the things that I decide to take photos are. Those things will certainly not be me, probably not anyone without clothes (unless I see some nutter running around town naked) and probably won’t feature people at all, is more fun to take photos of other things, my opinion on that may change though.
